Why are you limiting production in the first year?

As in any new start-up business, it is hard to correctly gauge initial product demand.  
That is one reason we are offering close to a 25% discount to those who want to guarantee 
to receive one of our first e-bikes through our pre-order program; and through our refundable 
deposit program we’re allowing people to reserve a place in line to purchase one of our first 
production e-bikes at our normal MSRP.
In our first year we are estimating we’ll produce only a few thousand units, which will cost us 
several million dollars to produce.  So, rather than expending capital on inventory that we might 
not be able to sell, we’re only producing a few thousand units our first year, and allowing those
 who want to guarantee to purchase one the opportunity to do so.  And by pre-ordering, you can 
do so at a nearly 25% discount to MSRP, if you so choose.
 
Where Are Your Bikes Made?

Right here in the United States. Portland to be exact. Not many bike manufacturers can say that, 
as 99.7% of bikes are made in China and Taiwan. Our goal, aside from changing the way we 
move around, is to keep production domestic to market, thereby creating and maintaining local jobs 
and lowering our carbon footprint.

When Do You Expect to Start Shipping?

2013 for the US Market- We will keep you updated as we get closer to this target.

 
Will You Be Selling Bikes Internationally?

We're excited to bring Conscious Commuter outside the US in the near future, but at this point, 
we are focusing on the US market as our entry. If you're an interested international customer or distributor,

let you know as soon as our bikes become available in your country.

All models share the same dimensions and wheelbase.
Length- 1575 mm
Height- 1092.2 mm
Wheelbase- 1067 mm
Model Ue and U, when folded, meet these approximate dimensions (still finalizing)
Length: 26" (660 mm)
Width: 11" (279.4 mm)
Height: 25" (635 mm)
(just under TSA regulation baggage dimensions)

How/ Where Do I Service My Bike?

We've made it a point to provide as many low-maintenance, off the shelf components 
on the bike as possible, so that you can bring it to any conventional bicycle shop for servicing. 
Both our internal hubs and shaft drive minimize maintenance compared to conventional 
chain-driven bikes, and our 20" tire size is industry standard. In the event that your electronics 
need to be serviced, contact Conscious Commuter and we'll connect you with a local bike shop 
who can quickly replace any damaged components and get you back on the road.

You mention an Electric Bike Upgrade Kit, but where is there any information about it?

The electric upgrade kit (for the Model U and Model C) will sell for $1,395 MSRP, and will include a 
350W electric hub motor, battery pack, throttle, controller and all other electric components.  
The pricing does not include installation, which must be done by Conscious Commuter or an authorized
 Conscious Commuter reseller in order for the warranty to be valid.  We have not yet made the electric
 upgrade kit available for order, as, since we are not yet shipping product, it would not make sense to 
order a non-electric bike and order the upgrade kit, as you can simply order the fully electric version of 
one of our bikes now (the Model Ce or Model Ue).

How Do You Charge the Bike?

You can plug the folded bike into a conventional 110 volt socket: charging from empty takes two hours.

What Is the Battery Range?

The Model Ce battery pack provides 10-15 miles of charge on average, depending on terrain, your pedal input, weight, etc.

How Much Does the Bike Weigh?

For the Model Ce full frame electric bike, we are aiming for 30 lbs. 
For the Model Ue folding electric bike, we want the bike to be light enough for commuters 
to handle getting on and off transit and into businesses / apartments easily. 
We are aiming for a goal of between 25-30 lbs. 
When folded, Model Ue can be 'carted' like a suitcase, facilitating the commuting process.

How Fast Does the Bike Go?

The electric assist motor is electronically limited 20 mph; however, you can pedal as fast as you want!

Does The Bike Have Regenerative Braking?

Regenerative braking adds complexity and little to no efficiency gains in the context of bikes this size- 
cars and trucks are another story. We've chosen to prioritize ride quality, 
minimal weight and simplicity over providing this option.
